Lars-Åke Norling - Chairman

Investment Director and Sector Head of Technology, Media and Telecommunications at Kinnevik

Lars-Åke Norling is Investment Director and Sector Head of Technology, Media and Telecommunications at Kinnevik. He has more than 20 years' management experience in TMT in the Nordics and in emerging markets. He was CEO of Total Access Communications (dtac), EVP for Developed Asia for Telenor, CEO of Digi Telecommunications Malaysia and CEO of Telenor Sweden.

Lars-Åke holds an MBA from Gothenburg School of Economics, an MSc in Engineering Physics from Uppsala University and an MSc in Systems Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, USA.. 

Mohd Khairil Abdullah

Chief Executive Officer Axiata Digital Services

Khairil was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Axiata Digital Services in January 2015. He first joined Axiata in 2012 and served as Group Chief Marketing and Operations Officer. 

Khairil holds a BA (Engineering) and MEng from the University of Cambridge, UK as well as an MBA from INSEAD, France. Prior to Axiata, Khairil was a Partner at Bain & Company, Inc., a leading global management consultancy. He was with Bain for more than 15 years and worked out of various offices in the firm, including San Francisco, Munich, Sydney, Tokyo and Shanghai. He has built a strong track record of helping his clients in the telecommunications and other industries achieve major improvements to their strategic positions and operational performance. In 2008, Khairil returned to Southeast Asia to help Bain grow its telecommunications practice in the region, based out of Singapore. Prior to joining Bain, Khairil was an operations consultant at Coopers & Lybrand, Management Consulting Services. He also had a stint running a tech start-up based in Southeast Asia.

Anja Blumert

Head of M&A at Millicom

Anja is Head of M&A at Millicom International Cellular SA. Prior to joining Millicom in 2013, she spent five years as an independent TMT and emerging markets consultant working with companies such as Discovery Communications, Dixons Retail and Millicom. She also spent four years as a TMT Investment Professional at Warburg Pincus International. Anja started her career at UBS investment bank in London and Johannesburg in 2001.

Anja is also a board director of Helios Towers Africa and Africa Internet Group (Jumia).

She holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Humboldt University of Berlin.

Nazim Cetin

CEO of Allianz X

Dr. Nazim Cetin is CEO of Allianz X. Nazim has more than a decade of leadership experience in investing, business development and entrepreneurship. Nazim joined Allianz X most recently from media conglomerate Bertelsmann, where he was Vice President of Corporate Development & New Businesses, as well as Head of Business Development. Prior, he founded the first German magazine focusing on philosophy and economics agora 42; internationalised the commercial finance division of Maple Bank; served as a venture partner for Target Global, and an advisor for many international VC funds and start-ups.

He received his Diplom in Economics from Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen, a M.Sc in Economics and Management from Universitat Pompeu Fabra Barcelona, and a Ph.D. in Economics from University Witten-Herdecke.

Cynthia Gordon

Board Director

Cynthia Gordon was elected a Director of the Board of Kinnevik AB in 2017. She is currently a member of the Board of Tele2 and was until February 2017 CEO of the Africa Division at Millicom.

Prior to joining Millicom in 2015, Cynthia spent three years at MENA and Asia Pacific telecommunications company Ooredoo as Chief Commercial Officer, and also spent nine years at Orange as Vice President, Business between 2001 and 2006, and Vice President, Partnerships and Emerging Markets between 2009 and 2012. Between 2007 and 2009, Cynthia was Chief Commercial Officer at the Russian/Eastern European communications company MTS.

Cynthia holds a BA Business Studies Degree.

George Sartorel

Regional CEO Asia Pacific of Allianz

As Regional CEO of Allianz in Asia Pacific, George Sartorel is responsible for the core growth region of Allianz Group. Under his leadership, Allianz has accelerated its growth strategy in Asia Pacific, while also leading the industry in embracing digital innovations to drive stronger engagement with its 18 million customers in the region.

George joined the Allianz Group in 1998, and has previously held leadership positions at Allianz Australia, Italy, Turkey and Europe.

George is also a member of Allianz’s International Executive Committee, a body chaired by Group CEO Oliver Bäte and formed by the Members of the Board of Management of Allianz SE.

In addition, he is a global board member of Allianz X. Headquartered in Munich, Germany, Allianz X performs digital investments with strategic relevance for the Allianz Group.

Since July 2015, George has also served as a member of the Financial Centre Advisory Panel, set up by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Jessica Pedroni Thorell

Investment Manager at Kinnevik

Jessica is an Investment Manager at Kinnevik and works with early stage to growth companies. Prior to joining Kinnevik, she focused on investing and advising growth companies at General Atlantic and Goldman Sachs.

Jessica earned an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from the Stockholm School of Economics and a CEMS Master in International Management from the University of St. Gallen.

Coenraad Vrolijk

Regional CEO Africa of Allianz

Coenraad Vrolijk is Regional CEO Africa of Allianz. Before that, he has been CEO at Rosewood Insurance Group, a startup with insurers in Nigeria, Rwanda and Pakistan. Coenraad has been a Managing Director at asset management firm BlackRock and a Partner at consulting firm McKinsey & Company.

Coenraad studied at Brown University, completing a Ph.D. and a MA in Economics. He is a member of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Board of Governors, and chairs its finance committee. 

Stephan Wilcke

Non-Executive Director

Stephan Wilcke is a Plural Director and Private Investor. Stephan joined the BIMA board in 2014 and chairs the audit & risk and the remuneration committee. He is also a board member of TBC Bank Group Plc (the largest bank in Georgia), Chairman of Amigo Loans (the largest guarantor lender in the UK) and a Commissioner of the Jersey Financial Services Commission.

In his career he has been Executive Chairman until the successful IPO in 2014 of UK challenger bank OneSavingsBank Plc, CEO of the UK Asset Protection Agency for HM Treasury, acted as advisor to various European Central Banks in the context of the 2009 financial crisis and served as a Partner and Head of European Financial Services at private equity firm Apax. He started his career at Oliver Wyman where he progressed to Partner level.

Stephan holds an MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University.
