Gustaf Agartson

Founder and CEO

Gustaf has been CEO at BIMA since the company’s formation. He has played a hands-on role in transforming BIMA from a small pilot scheme, into a high-growth, international business. 

Gustaf Agartson previously worked in management roles at the pan-European telecommunications company Tele2, including positions as Mobile Product Manager for Tele2 Netherlands and Head of Controlling for the Tele2 Global Sales and Marketing unit. 

Gustaf holds a masters from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and a Bachelor in Business Administration from Stockholm Business School.

Mathilda Ström

Deputy CEO

Mathilda joined BIMA in 2011. As Head of Business Development, Mathilda is instrumental in driving BIMA's rapid expansion, as well as overseeing the development of new partnerships and products. Mathilda is acknowledged as an expert in the field of mobile delivered services and is a champion for the microinsurance industry worldwide.  

Before joining BIMA, Mathilda worked for Value Partners (formerly Spectrum Strategy Consultants), where she gained vast experience in developing corporate strategy and managing complex projects within the Telecoms and Media sectors. 

Mathilda holds a BSc in International Management with American Business Studies from the Manchester Business School.

Gary Lumsdon

CFO

Gary joined BIMA as CFO in 2018. He has over twenty years of experience in senior finance and mergers & acquisitions roles gained in consulting, listed international and entrepreneurial high growth private equity backed businesses.

Gary has worked across a wide range of sectors including fintech and insurance. Prior to joining BIMA, Gary was CFO and COO at Carlyle backed ITRS, a company delivery analytics and application performance management software to the worlds leading investment and commercial banks. He has successfully completed two private equity exits in the last 7 years.

Gary qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG, is an alumni of EY, and holds a first class B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Physics from the University of Manchester.

Paddy Partridge

Regional Manager Africa

Paddy has responsibility for driving performance and maintaining partnerships within our African markets. 

Paddy has considerable emerging markets experience from his previous roles with Aureos Capital and working with the UK Shadow Secretary of State for International Development. Paddy was also a director of an international FMCG e-commerce business with offices in UK and Ireland, and is a founding director of a social enterprise operating in East Africa.

Paddy holds an MBA from INSEAD and a BA (Hons) from Trinity College Dublin.

Puay-Lim Yeo

Regional Manager South East Asia

Puay Lim has responsibility for driving performance and maintaining partnerships within our South East Asian markets. 

Puay Lim Yeo has five years of experience in management consulting, specialising in the Telecoms and Media sectors. Prior to joining BIMA, he was a senior consultant at Value Partners (formerly known as Spectrum Strategy Consultants) and Analysys Mason, advising telecoms and media operators in Asia in the areas of corporate strategy, product development, technology, distribution and regulation. He also previously worked in the Singapore Government in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

Puay Lim holds a B.A in Political Science from Columbia University in New York City. 

Benito Hernandez

Regional Manager Latin America

Benito has responsibility for driving performance and maintaining partnerships within our Latin America Markets.

Benito brings 25 years of experience in the Latin America Telecommunication business supporting Cellular Manufactures, Distributors and MNOs. Prior Joining Bima, Benito has led the commercial organizations for Motorola, Brightstar and Celistics with increasing responsibilities in sales, strategy and business development.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronic degree from Universidad Javeriana, Bogota, Colombia and an Masters in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University, Plantation, Florida

Marie Kyle

Head of Product Development & Innovation

Marie provides strategic direction for BIMA's new product design and development. She also supports implementation and roll out of new products within local markets. 

Marie joined BIMA from CDC Group, the UK government’s development finance institution, supporting the launch of new private equity funds across Africa. She has extensive experience in management consulting, development finance, and the nonprofit sector. Marie's previous roles include positions at the Clinton Health Access Initiative in Zambia, and with the internationalconsulting group Bain & Company in Chicago. 

Marie holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

RAJAT MALHOTRA

CTO

Rajat joined BIMA in 2017. As global CTO, Rajat is responsible for creation & execution of long term tech vision and product roadmap for BIMA.

Before joining BIMA, Rajat held senior positions in renowned global product companies. He has worked at Go-Jek as SVP Product Management where he was head of their Go-Food business. Earlier he was India site-lead and Director Engineering @Twitter. At Twitter, he was responsible for building features for user acquisition in the emerging markets. Rajat has also successfully co-founded a SaaS based recruitment platform which was later sold to Naukri (InfoEdge)

Rajat is an IIT alumnus and holds B.Tech. degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

Alastair Douglas

Director Global Operations

Alastair joined BIMA in 2017 and he is responsible for Global Operations.

Before joining BIMA, Alastair held a number of operational leadership roles including Managing Director of Capita Automation and Operations Director at TalkTalk plc, a UK based Telecoms company. Prior to that he worked at McKinsey, Cadbury Schweppes and Deloitte.

Alastair has an MBA from Insead, is a qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA) and has a law degree (LLB) from Nottingham University.

Mathilda Ström

Danielle Treharne

Business Development Africa

Danielle is responsible for defining and executing our expansion strategy across Africa

Before joining BIMA, Danielle built and managed the largest UK government-funded private sector reform project in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Previous to this, she worked for Javelin Group, gaining strong experience in consumer-facing and technologically innovative markets. Danielle brings additional experience from her five years volunteering for Kiva.org microfinance.

Danielle holds a First Class degree in Modern Languages (French, Italian) from the University of Oxford.

Yiling Cheah

Business Development Asia & Caribbean

Yiling is responsible for defining and executing our expansion strategy in Asia and the Caribbean. 

Before joining BIMA, Yiling was a consultant at Oliver Wyman and Macquarie Group, where she gained significant experience in emerging markets and microfinance. Yiling has worked on projects for institutions in Gambia, Senegal, Costa Rica and Ghana.

Yiling has a BC in Actuarial Sciences and Finance from the University of NSW (with an exchange at Wharton) and an MPA ID from LSE.

Ren Hooi

Asia Partnership Manager

Ren is responsible for driving our partnership expansion in Asia.

Prior to joining BIMA, Ren worked as a consultant at Bain & Company, where she was involved with projects in the telecommunications and consumer products sectors within Southeast Asia. She has experiences with nonprofits and social enterprises in various markets, including The Rockefeller Foundation in New York and Off.Grid:Electric, a renewable energy startup in Tanzania. Ren also worked on sales strategy and customer loyalty at Starwood Hotels.

Ren holds a B.A. in Economics from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Wharton.

Mafalda Torgal

Director of Brand and Communications

Mafalda is the guardian of BIMA’s brand globally and in each one of its markets. Mafalda aims to improve BIMA’s brand presence and awareness across all regions and is also responsible not only for its PR strategy, but for its integrated marketing and communications plan.

Mafalda joined the team in 2017 and has over 20 years’ experience in the Telco industry, working both B2B and B2C marketing and communications, in developed and emerging markets. Before joining BIMA, Mafalda worked in Malaysia for TIMWE, a Portuguese company specialised in VAS and mobile engagement solutions, and for Portugal Telecom’s mobile operators in East-Timor (Timor Telecom) and in Portugal (Meo). 

Mafalda holds a BA in Management and Business Administration from CLSBE – Catolica Lisbon School of Business and Economics and a Global Executive MBA from IESE Business School.

Michelle Lowery

Marketing, PR & Communications Manager

Michelle is BIMA’s Marketing, PR and Communications Manager. She is responsible for providing support to our global markets and helping regional teams to implement their marketing activities, as well as raising the profile of BIMA globally through PR.

Prior to working at BIMA, Michelle held senior communications, partnerships and PR roles in the UK and Cambodia. Her background includes social enterprises, NGOs and corporate clients and she has experience managing partnerships with international government funders including USAID and DFID (UK).

Michelle holds an MA in Journalism and a BA in English and Philosophy.

Ciprian Ailenei

Global Digital Marketing Manager

As BIMA’s Global Digital Marketing Manager, Ciprian is responsible for the company’s global growth through digital marketing. He oversees BIMA’s digital marketing strategy across all markets, with significant focus on driving engagement and educating customers, and strong emphasis on lead generation and data-driven customer acquisition campaigns.


Prior to joining BIMA, Ciprian worked for Nowtel Group (a UK based MVNO) as a Digital Marketing Manager, raising awareness and driving growth through online marketing by targeting ethnic groups from emerging markets (Africa, LatAm, the Caribbean, and Asia). Earlier in his career, Ciprian held different digital marketing focused roles, working both on the agency-side and the client-side, delivering top-notch digital projects in the telecom, travel, tech, media & advertising, HR, mobile or SaaS industries. He lived in countries such as the UK, Iceland, Romania or Brazil and gathered valuable digital strategy, start-up growth hacking, mobile, and SaaS marketing experience, by working either for top corporate companies or for small early-stage start-ups, either B2B or B2C, in both developed and emerging markets across the world.

Lisa Hulthén

Group Legal Counsel

Lisa is Group Legal Counsel at BIMA.

Before joining BIMA, Lisa was an associate at Swedish law firm Mannheimer Swartling, where she specialised in mergers & acquisitions. During her three years at the law firm, Lisa was seconded to NC Advisory. Lisa has experience in M&A and companies law.

Lisa holds a Master of Laws (LLM) from Lund University.

David Badower

Group Financial Controller

David joined the company in 2015. David supports the work of the CFO and has responsibility for group accounting and consolidation of all subsidiaries.

When David joined BIMA in early 2015, he had around 10 years of experience in finance and controlling. After starting his career in Deloitte in Paris as auditor and then consultant, he joined the the leader of pay TV in France Canal+ Group, as Internal auditor, working on different financial and operational projects. Before joining BIMA in Stockholm, David worked  two years as Group Operational Controller in the Netherlands (in Applus RTD).

David holds a Master in Science of Management from the French Business School ESSEC.

Gülnur Gültekin

Office Manager

Gülnur joined BIMA in August 2017. As Office Manager, Gülnur makes sure that the Stockholm office runs smoothly. Prior to joining BIMA, she worked for an American software company as Office Manager and Contracts Administrator.

Niklas Berglund

Strategic Business Analyst

Niklas Berglund joined the BIMA's central finance team as Strategic Business Analyst.

Niklas has previously worked as Engagement Manager (and Financial Consultant) at SkySparc, a boutique financial consultancy firm. In his last role as Engagement Manager he acted as project manager and was responsible for sales activities with corporate treasury departments, asset managers, banks and central banks.

Niklas holds a M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering and Management and a B.Sc in Mathematics from Linkoping University.

Karlis Strazdins

internal control director

Karlis is responsible for internal audit and risk management across all Milvik locations.

Karlis's career began in 2000 with PricewaterhouseCoopers (now PwC) in Riga, Latvia and, later, Kiev, Ukraine. He performed external financial audits and process improvement assignments as well as helped listed companies achieve compliance with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

In 2006 Karlis moved to London, United Kingdom to become an internal audit manager for a NASDAQ-listed media company. He lived in London until 2010 when he returned to his hometown. Back in Riga, Karlis joined the newly established internal audit function of another listed media company, Modern Times Group MTG AB (MTG).

In 2011 Karlis was promoted to MTG's head of internal audit and risk and relocated to Stockholm, Sweden. He served in that role until summer 2016 when he joined Milvik as its first chief audit executive.

Karlis holds a BSc in Economics and Business from Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. He speaks fluent Latvian, English and Russian, and has been a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants since 2005.

Janis Rantins

Internal Audit Manager

Janis joined Milvik as Internal Audit Manager in February 2018.

Janis’s career in audit started in 2005 with Ernst & Young (now EY) in Riga, Latvia and later Melbourne, Australia where he was working on different external audit engagements for private as well as listed companies.
In 2012 Janis started working as an internal audit manager for the Scandinavia Holding of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) but in 2014 he joined Modern Times Group (MTG), also as an internal audit manager. In mid 2016 Janis became an acting head of internal audit for MTG to temporarily replace the newly appointed head of internal audit during his paternity leave.

Janis holds master’s degree in economics. He speaks fluent Latvian, English and Russian and is a member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Vilhelm Sund

Strategic Business Controller

Vilhelm joined BIMA’s central finance team as Strategic Business Controller in 2017.

Vilhelm started to work for BIMA soon after graduating from university with a M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering and Management from Linkoping University. During his time at university Vilhelm gathered experience through various internships were the two most recent ones was within investment baking at Swedish investment bank Carnegie and within e-commerce at British e-commerce company The Hut Group.

Sofia Nilsson

Financial Controller - Consolidation & Group Reporting

Sofia joined BIMA’s central finance team as Financial Controller - Consolidation & Group Reporting in 2017, working with the group accounting and consolidation of all subsidiaries.

Before joining BIMA, Sofia was working in the position of Group Reporting Specialist at Länsförsäkringar AB, a leading organisation in the Swedish bank and insurance market. She also holds experience from Fintech start-ups such as Nordiska, providing financial solutions for small and mid-size companies.

Sofia holds a M.Sc. in Business and Economics from Stockholm University and a B.Sc in Politics and Economics from Swedish Defence University.

Harshendra Kumar

Head of Business Intelligence

Harshendra has over 12 years of extensive experience in developing BI solutions and web applications for telecom companies. His previous roles include lead architect for the BI implementation for Tigo Tanzania, Lead BI developer for BI solution in Millicom, Luxembourg as well lead developer for web applications developed in ASP.NET for Tigo Tanzania and AXA group services, Bangalore.

Harshendra is a certified SQL server and ASP.NET professional holds a MSc degree in Information Science from Mangalore University

Smrutirekha Nayak

Head of Quality Assurance

Smrutirekha joined BIMA in 2014 from Hewlett Packard, Bangalore as a QA Lead, having 10+ yrs. progressive and diversified IT experience in Product Development Companies & IT Service Companies in delivering Business Critical applications Quality services & solutions for various Industrial Sectors including Banking, Mobile, Telecommunication and Insurance
She has strong proficiency in Project management, Test management, Test consulting, Budgeting, Telecom products and solutions, Leadership and team building, Test processes and methodologies, testing centers of excellence, Presales, change, release management and Thought leadership.

Rahul Pandey

Revenue Assurance Manager

Rahul joined BIMA in 2017. As Revenue Assurance Manager, Rahul is responsible for stabilising and improving revenue across different markets using data analysis and modelling.

Before joining BIMA, Rahul was a co-founder in a funded education start up where he worked as Chief Operations Officer. In his other start up, he created multiple data analytics tools to provide insights to political leaders.

Rahul holds a B.Tech degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and an MBA from IIM Bangalore.

Rohit Kumar

Director of Engineering

Rohit has been working with startups for over 10 years. He has been an engineer, entreprenuer and mentor. He also founded Yappily, India's online flea market.

He has previously worked in management roles at various Series B & above level companies in technology, product and sales.

Rohit holds a master’s degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and he is an alumni of the Startup Leadership Program.

Chandrakanth Ballapuram

Lead Business Analyst

Chandrakanth joined BIMA in 2015. As Lead Business Analyst, Chandrakanth is responsible for reporting and analytics needs supporting all operations.

Before joining BIMA, Chandrakanth worked for Verisk Analytics in various functional, technical and analytical roles. He has good experience in customer analytics, revenue/churn analytics, machine learning & predictive modelling, and is a subject matter expert on insurance and reinsurance.

Chandrakanth holds a post graduate diploma in Risk Management from IIRM. He is also a certified professional in Insurance/Reinsurance, having being awarded ‘Associate in Reinsurance’(ARe) from AICPCU, USA.

Craig Fergusson

GLOBAL HEAD OF HUMAN RESOURCES

Craig joined BIMA in August 2016 to develop the HR strategy and its implementation. He joins us from the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) Association where he was an Associate Director, designing and delivering an end-to-end HR function across multiple geographies and managing a small team. Prior to this he was HR manager with the Carbon Trust, having spent some time as a head-hunter in quantitative finance & asset management. Craig started his career in finance as a technology, media & telecommunications (TMT) marketing analyst at FOR Securities, a small Financial Services boutique, following time in New York working in biotech M&A as a technical analyst while studying.

Craig has a BSc & PhD in Chemistry, a PGCert in International Business and more recently an MSc in Human Resources & Development

William Robertson

HR Manager

William joined in 2017, and has responsibility for recruitment activities at the global and regional level for BIMA.

Previously, he worked in the legal executive search sector as a Research Associate and Consultant. Before that, William worked in the legal publishing industry, latterly as a Deputy Editor.

William holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Nottingham.

Marru Oanes

HR Administrative Assistant

Marru joined BIMA in October 2017 as HR Administrative Assistant. Marru provides support and administrative assistance to the Global HR team, to ensure that it performs at its best.

Before joining BIMA, Marru previously worked as a Recruitment Consultant, recruiting Healthcare professionals in NHS Hospitals all over the UK.

Marru has a BSc in Economics and Politics from Queen Mary University of London.

Camilla Megumi

Office Manager

Camilla joined BIMA in early 2017. As Office Manager, she ensures the smooth day-to-day running of the London office. Her responsibilities range from financial and administrative functions, to managing supplier relationships and supporting the HR team.

Before joining BIMA, Camilla worked for a Japanese firm in Europe with quite a broad role, drawing in elements of office manager, PA and HR with some responsibility for financial submissions as well.

Marie Kyle

HEAD OF PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & INNOVATION

Jose Martin

Global Health Manager

Jose joined BIMA in 2016 as Global Health Manager.

Before joining BIMA, Jose started out his career as a practicing clinician in Spain, where he founded his own network of healthcare clinics before joining McKinsey as a health sector practice expert. He’s joining us from Telefonica where he was most recently a director on their global eHealth team.

Jose holds a MD from the School of Medicine at the University Complutense and an MBA from Kellogg.

Christina Cosma

Global Insurance Products Manager

Christina joined BIMA in 2018 as the Global Insurance Products Manager. She works with the local market teams to optimize existing insurance product terms as well as pricing, developing and piloting new insurance products.

Before joining BIMA, Christina worked as a Pricing Actuary at Pacific Life Re and a Product Development Actuary at VitalityLife in London. She is also a member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Working Party for e-cigarettes and their impact on the insurance industry.

Christina holds a Fellowship from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (FIA) and a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Leeds.

Nicole Evans

Global Customer Experience manager

Nicole joined BIMA in September 2018. As Global Customer Experience Manager she manages BIMA's voice of the customer systems and drives the optimisation of core customer journeys across the business.

Prior to BIMA, Nicole was a manager in PwC’s Financial Services Customer and Digital consulting practice where she led the design and delivery of new, engaging customer experiences for clients in the UK and South Africa. Her flagship projects include the redesign of customer journeys, creation of new digital propositions and partnership development with South African Fintechs and UK Insurtechs.

Nicole holds a MEng in Civil Engineering from Imperial College London and the Hong Kong Polytechnic university.

Alastair Douglas

Director Global Operations

Alastair joined BIMA in 2017 and he is responsible for Global Operations.

Nagehan Tarim

Global Operations Manager

Nagehan joined BIMA in 2017 as Global Operations Manager and plays a key role in driving operational excellence across BIMA’s countries of operation and building a world class global operations function.

Nagehan has over 5 years’ experience in financial services. Prior to joining BIMA, she was a management consultant at KPMG in London and was responsible for delivering on large scale and complex technology enabled operational transformation programmes with global banks.

Nagehan is part of the leadership team of the Turkish Women’s International Network London Chapter. Nagehan holds a BA in Economics from Vassar College, New York, and an MSc in International Development from the London School of Economics.

Nick Abbott

Global Performance Improvement Manager

Nick joined BIMA in 2015 and became part of the Global Team in 2018. He provides operational support for all BIMA markets with a emphasis on sharing best practices and improving overall operational effectiveness. Nick is particularly focused on developing leadership skills at all levels and ensuring that internal operating systems are geared towards satisfying end-customer demand.

After 12 years as a logistics officer with the Royal Air Force (UK), Nick has spent the last 20 years in a wide variety of operational management, consulting and training roles in the telecommunications, financial services and eCommerce sectors in Canada, Jamaica and the USA.

Harish Karakoti

Head of Operations, Asia

Harish joined BIMA as the Country Manager for Bangladesh, building our local operation. Prior to joining BIMA, Harish worked in technology consulting where he led cross-functional teams across geographies and managed product development initiatives in the telecommunications sector.

Harish holds a Bachelor in Information Sciences from University of Delhi and an MBA from Columbia Business School, New York.
